## What Project 2049 Vol.3 argues

Takahiro Mitsui's paid weekly philosophy newsletter Project 2049, Vol.3 (October 23, 2026), asks why Japan is so orderly when no one enforces it, through wa (和) and his book NO ONE DECIDED, and follows Amaterasu to the reign of Emperor Sujin.

### LIVING QUESTIONS: No one decided, and yet it is decided

Takahiro Mitsui argues that Japan's order has no one behind it: no one decided, and yet it is decided; no one commanded, and yet everyone obeys. Reading the air, peer pressure and collectivism are communal agreements, not answers.

Mitsui sees a country that, with American-style capitalism as its signboard, is in reality the first to have fully realized socialism. Following Wang Yangming, he refuses to cut wa into good and evil. His book NO ONE DECIDED: Wa and the World's Most Orderly Society (Japanese edition: Wa to Daiwa, 和と大和) reads the mystery historically, from the standpoint of illusion. Wa is not harmony.

### JAPANESE THOUGHT: Amaterasu and Emperor Sujin

Takahiro Mitsui writes that Amaterasu is known as the emperor's ancestral deity, yet the source of her worship is almost wholly unclear. He holds that the belief in Takamagahara ruled by Amaterasu was born in an extremely limited place and spread over a long span of years.

In the Nihon Shoki, Emperor Sujin, fearing the force of the gods, moved Amaterasu and Yamato no Okunitama out of the palace, entrusting them to Toyosukiirihime and Nunakiirihime, and Amaterasu went to Kasanui at Mount Miwa. The Kojiki tells only the pacifying of Omononushi through Otataneko. Sujin's reign changed in kind the relation between the emperor and the gods.
